DRESSED IN WHITE

Today was a nice, slow morning. Trav and I got to sleep in, eat homemade cinnamon rolls for breakfast, and now I get to blog. Ahh, I love Saturdays. What is your favorite thing about lazy mornings? Let me know in the comments. Hey, it's my first official blog post! I wanted to get started with a post that I'm going to categorize a #modtransformation. It's a mouthful, I know (haha).

If you are a bride-to-be, this post is especially for you. I got married about three months ago, and let me tell you, modest wedding gowns are hard to come by! Here in Utah there are a bunch of cute boutiques that sell temple-ready dresses, but shopping for a wedding dress in California is a totally different story! If you are looking for strapless, sheer, low-cut, or crazy colored dresses, California stores have them. They pretty much have everything except the modest dresses!

I got engaged while I was at school in Utah, so I had my mom scout out some good bridal shops in California that we could visit. She searched for a long time, and really only found one store that had modest styles-- David's Bridal. David's Bridal is all over the map, so that's a great thing for you brides who need a more modest gown!
When I came in for my appointment, I tried on about six dresses (I thought it was pretty cool that they had that many "modest-ish" dresses). The dress pictured at the left was by far my favorite! It had everything I wanted: beading, detailed lace, long-sleeves, and a dreamy, long train. The only thing that wasn't perfect about the dress was the modesty aspect. It was sooo close to being perfect! As you can see in the picture, it was VERY low cut in the front, had a deep v-shaped back, and also shorter sleeves than what I had wanted.

Luckily, those were easy fixes. My mother-in-law is an amazing seamstress, and offered to help! (PRO TIP: If you are trying to alter your wedding dress and can't find the perfect material to match, ASK the shop that you purchased your dress at if they have extra materials. Each shop will have scraps from doing alterations and some that may match your dress perfectly!) In my case, we didn't need the lace scraps so instead we found an ivory-colored material from a fabric market that went perfectly. My mother-in-law was able to add beautiful front and back panels, and short sleeves that went underneath the sheer lace. I think the alterations actually enhanced the look of my dress SO much.

And "voila"! The impossible was made possible through a few quick fixes. On my wedding day, I felt happy, beautiful, and confident because I was wearing my modest dream dress.
What stores have/did you looked at for your wedding dress? Comment below if you have any suggestions on making wedding dresses modest, or if you know of any stores that sell modest dresses.

Thanks for stopping by,
Sydney :)

  2. Your dress is so beautiful. Maybe you should start a line of modest wedding dresses and things to put on under other dresses to make them that way.
